Initially it was supposed that acne on face is only the problem of teen age. Now it has noticed that almost half of women and quarter of men are suffering from acne. Adult and teen acne differs in factors responsible to cause acne. Major cause of teenage acne is the hormonal imbalance during puberty. In adults hormonal imbalance is also the reason to develop acne but the reasons for hormonal imbalance are different in adults. Irrespective to reason for hormonal imbalance it will result in abnormal functioning of sebaceous glands and other factors in combination to this cause acne.
Why face is more prone to have acne?
More than 90% of people suffer from acne on face. The reason for such high rate of acne outbreak on face is due to the presence of numerous numbers of sebaceous glands and pores on the face. Face is very prominent part of our body and it is continuously exposed to outer environment. Upon over activation of sebaceous glands excess of sebum starts accumulating in hair follicle and hair follicle gets blocked. This clogging also stops the renewal of dead cells. Such blocked follicles also entrapped surface living bacteria. All these factors collectively work to cause acne on face.
Causes of Acne on Face
• Our skin contains huge number of pilosebaceous unit. Pilosebaceous units are made of sebaceous glands, a hair follicle and hair. Acne occurs when pilosebaceous units stop working normally. In normal conditions sebum keeps hairs and skin moisturized. Fluctuation in hormone concentrations at the age of puberty or other special events such menopause and on pregnancy direct the synthesis of excess sebum through pilosebaceous. Follicle fails to excrete out this excess of sebum. Excess amount of sebum mixes with dead cells inside the follicle and congest the pore. It results in formation of white heads. When these white heads exposed to the outer surface also trap some dust particles and appear as blackhead. Blackhead finally results in pimples or acne on face.
• Overactive sebaceous gland is not the only reason for acne on face. Some times hair follicles disintegrated on themselves. This breaking of hair follicle can also block the outlet for sebum release. As a result acne is produced. The exact cause for this disintegration is not known. But it is also one major reason to cause acne on face in adults.
• Some other factors also play important role in the appearance of acne on face. These factors include Vitamin deficiencies, stress conditions and genetic inheritance.
